Years ago there was a show on American TV entitled “Double Dare.” It consisted of teens daring other teens with basically slime and a few other choice items. My daughter loved this show. When I was young no one wanted someone to say to them that they dared them. This usually meant doing something foolish such as climbing too high on a tree, jumping off stairs, a high ladder, or the worst trying cigarettes. That may have been the catayst for early on addiction to cigarettes.Back then the movies made smoking look cool. Smoking was normal in many of the old movies. Both men and women smoked and it was designed to make them look fabulous. Then as we saw them the chances are we would be dared by a peer to try smoking. When one person dares another there are always consequences. As teens there were dares for kissing, skipping school, and a few that were distasteful bullying others. That type of dare always had consequences. Sometimes way beyond what a girl or boy may have anticipated. There was also the dare of three minutes in heaven. Today the dares are much more bolder. Many of the videos on Facebook have some type of criminal daring someone else. It never works out. The whole concept of daring a person should not even exist. I think it is kids and adults trying to make another person do what they are too afraid to do. The old calling a person chicken whether in school or as an adult is an underlying type of confrontation. How do you feel about daring?
