Names

When I was young, names were very basic. Over time they changed to different spellings, pronounciations, and even new names. In the very olden days, long before our time, the names were complicated and difficult to pronouce let alone spell. Stop and think, the easy names such as David, Joseph, Mary, Ruth, Stephen, Francis or Frances, etc. were common. The complicated names such as Zachariah, Waldetrudis, or Abakerazum just to name a few seem difficult plus how could they possibly have a nickname? When I was in elementary school, everyone had some sort of nick- name except me. My name is Irish and there was just no substitute for it. For example, the teacher in the Good Gus series, Patricia is called Miss Patty. Obviously that is an easy nickname. Her sister in real life, Felicia, who was also a character couldn’t have a nickname either. J.C. whom in real life is John Charles ended up with a long nick name Johnny the Cat. His brother James Ray became Bronco from book four, “Johnny the Cat and Bronco Ride that Bull.” It is a good story with adventure and a lesson for the young reader without them realizing it. One other thing about names is that on many of the Facebook reels, people tend to call others names. They are almost exclusively adults and they refer to them as trash, poor, uneducated, etc. None of these names apply as the individuals they are criticizing were hard working individuals, sometimes with families. Many of them have their own special talents which I believe is important, don’t you agree?
