The world has always had a certain amount of trepidation but now people are living in fear. Previously, there were shortages of daily items such as bath tissue, dishwashing cleanser, paper towels, water, plus many food staples such as some meats, poultry, rice and flour. The companies quickly learned and this year it hasn’t been an issue so far. However, inflation, particularly in the United States is steadily rising. This will make people who were not nervous previously to change to living in fear due to lack of a variety of products. This will also include the cost of items at the grocery. Many basics such as chicken, beef, pork, fruits and vegetables are on the rise and not by a few cents. Items that I regularly purchased have increased more than one dollar or Euro within the past seven days. Petrol is climbing at a rapid rate. All taxes are going up and are occasionally disguised as a price increase when in reality it’s just more taxes. People who had a decent income and ate fine steak and other meats will be reverting to hamburg, less protein, pastas, rice and beans. For some people that may not be a bad thing. We have all worked really hard to have good lives so to now be living in fear seems unreasonable. In the Good Gus series there were occasional stories that might scare the young reader but not in a terrifying or frightening way.
