Many individuals take protein powders to build muscle. It is also popular for weight gain.  If you plan on using protein powders, it is important that you read the label before making a purchase.  There are products that contain certain ingredients that are not really healthy.  For example, BST is a hormone that is naturally produced in the brains of dairy cows.  Unfortunately, a genetically engineered version of BST (also referred to to as rBST or rBGH) have been injected into cows to increase their milk production.  You have probably seen the labels on dairy products in the grocery no rBST.  The reason people don’t wish to ingest this product is because it leads to increased risk for infection, reduced fertility and disability  in the cows.  What is worse is that it does lead to infection and the need for antibiotics which can contaminate the milk.  This in turn causes antibiotic-resistance bacteria in humans.  Artificial sweeteners and colors in protein powders can wreak havoc on your body.  These sweeteners are added to the protein powders to make them taste good without additional calories.   Just the sweeteners can cause gut dysbiosis, poor carbohydrate tolerance, increased hunger, oxidative stress, accelerated aging and cognitive decline.  If you are using the product to help you gain muscle and lose weight , these sweeteners will fail you as they will increase your weight. The dyes in the protein powders can give you an allergy-like reaction which can cause all types of issues.  Remember the Blue 1, Red 40, Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 are the ones to avoid.  It used to be if you were at a party and a person said they sold insurance it was akin to getting the plague.  Now the new topic is GMO foods.  The controversy is endless.  The original point of the GMO was to reduce the amount of pesticides required to grow crops.  Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out that way.  Your best choice is to avoid the GMO’s.  While many individuals still believe soy is healthy, the majority of governments around the world feel that soy can have a negative affect  on your thyroid and your digestive tract.  Whey is a better high protein product.  Probably the best part about the Good Gus series is that all of the above including protein powders did not exist.  The series is available exclusively on Kindle worldwide.  If your workout at the gym has not given you the results you are hoping for, consider the right protein powder and bring your tablet so you can read “Misplaced Trust.” It is available on 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.
