When you think about it, how many of us really take a break and just rest? In our hectic lives, there just doesn’t seem to be enough time. However, a ten minute break can make a difference in our overall health, refresh our minds, and even brighten our appearance. Our lives tend to be scheduled almost every minute that there doesn’t seem to be any free time to just simply rest. In the previous work eras, there were morning and afternoon coffee breaks. I’m not sure they exist today. Although smoke breaks are available. If employers thought about it, a short break twice a day would probably increase productivity and if their staff is handling customer service, the rest would certainly help them be more polite to the unfriendly customers and their complaints. We all need to rest to let our minds relax and stop the constant worrying that goes on in our daily lives. Many of us are overwhelmed with a variety of obligations and never think that a short break and possibly a nap would help us calm our minds. My late aunt always said, “Take care of yourself first. You can’t help anyone until you help yourself first.” She was right. Many parents feel that scheduling is the only way to keep their children out of trouble and away from too much TV or video games. Unfortunately, with the over scheduling with sports, lessons, and even chores on the week-ends no one has a chance to just be. Many individuals cannot even shut their phone off even for a few minutes just to relax and rest. If this is out of your comfort zone, start off slowly with micro breaks and then build up. You will be glad you did. The characters in the Good Gus series had loose schedules and particularly, at Mary’s Cafe, the rest period was mandatory. The series is available exclusively online at Kindle worldwide. Now would be the time to take that rest break and read “Misplaced Trust.” It is available on 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.
