Do you have trouble sleeping? Many individuals do and it is not easy to shut their minds and sleep peacefully.  Many people start with nightly rituals thinking that if they do the same thing every night they will condition their minds to slow down and recognize it is time to go to sleep.  Trying to break the insomnia cycle can be quite difficult.  Often, people try changing their routines, rituals, reducing or eliminating caffeine, and possibly trying the over the counter products or supplements to drift into a peaceful night’s sleep.  Some individuals focus on key words but not the counting sheep, in an effort to change their mental focus so they can drop off.  There have been some preliminary studies that suggest that if you choose any five letters and focus on the first letter that it will help your mind generate a list of other words.  Then, the subject moves on to picturing different words, making them plural and possibly even rhyming to keep their mind off of any topic that is stopping them from drifting off.  The studies showed that the words association works by coaxing the brain to enter the state that naturally precedes sleep. As the brain begins to transition to sleep, it stops ‘sense-making’ and has turned off the higher order processing functions that one uses during the day.  This allows the thoughts and images to become surreal.  Once this occurs, it signals the rest of the brain that it is indeed time to switch everything off and go to sleep.  If this method does not work, a magnesium supplement may be the answer.  It not only contributes to sleep but also to bone health, proper brain ability, heart and muscle function along with relieving inflammation, and helping to reduce blood pressure.  When you cannot relax when it is bedtime and your brain will not shut off, magnesium can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for helping you to calm down and become relaxed.  The magnesium regulates neurotransmitters, which sends the signals to the brain.  It also regulates the hormone melatonin, which is part of your sleep-wake cycle.  Incidentally, individuals do take  melatonin supplements to aid their sleeping.  It works on some individuals, but not everyone.  In the end, magnesium helps to quiet the nervous system and in turn calm your mind and body.  In book three, “Cory Returns,”  the cowboy falls asleep when he is stranded on the trail to Pecos.  However, Sheriff Gus and Ray come to the rescue.  Great reading exclusively on Kindle worldwide.  If you cannot fall asleep, relax your mind and read “Misplaced Trust” which is available on 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.
