Many health professionals tout red wine as part of a daily diet. However, are they correct?  They suggest moderate wine drinking but how much?  In the United States, they define moderate as eight to twelve small glasses of wine per week.  Their claims for lower cholesterol, anti-aging, good for your heart  and a sense of well-being are difficult to corroborate.  It is known, however, from a variety of studies that have researched light to moderate wine or even alcohol drinking may lead to loss of memory or possible damage to the brain.  Other studies have indicated that, especially in women, daily consumption can lead to breast cancer.  The evidence is not rock solid and cannot be verified.  The studies seem to vacillate between drink or don’t drink.  Wine or alcohol can easily cause traffic accidents, violence and ridiculous behavior along with arguments and saying foolish things that are regrettable the next day.  If you are older and worried about your brain, the scientists recommend abstaining.  What is interesting is that if you have ever met anyone who has abused their bodies their entire lives, and then suddenly because they retired have decided to make changes, admirable as it sounds much of the damage has already occurred.  Anyone you know like this is already well on their way to a variety of health issues including Type II diabetes, high cholesterol, heart problems, and the ever popular dementia or Alzheimer’s. The old phrase “Your body is a temple” should really be taken seriously.  Children need to grow up clearly understanding that fast food is not a way or life.  Neither is sitting in front of a screen playing video games and eating any type processed foods.  If children learn how to cook at an early age they will grow up with strong values and a healthy diet. In the Good Gus series there was no discussions of wine or alcohol as the stories are for young children.  Growing a garden and eating healthy was a topic in a few of the books.  The series is available exclusively at Kindle worldwide.  If you are thinking about sitting down with a good book and having a glass of wine, I hope you will consider “Misplaced Trust.”  It is available on 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.
