It’s Complicated

The words, ‘It’s complicated’ are used so that a person does not have to explain a situation.  I have seen it on Facebook particularly when you see a person’s description.  Rather than say they are married, involved, dating, or in a relationship with more than one person, they use that phrase.  I knew a man who said exactly that.  Not only was he married but he had a mistress.  The wife was a hard working woman who took care of their home, children and a business.  Yet he was basically a philanderer. Ever since I saw his posting I have hated those words.  You hear it frequently on TV shows.  If you are writing a script that will be seen by millions the least you can do is explain rather than use the words ‘Its’ complicated.’ In many relationships, the husband, wife, partner or significant other cheat.  They keep it quiet until someone finds out.  Then everything goes crazy.  This is also true in the workplace.  A workmate may be involved with another person but they keep it quiet.  If another co-worker asks why they spend so much time together, they simply reply that they are working on projects and it’s complicated.  The reality is that they are having an affair.  The first time I saw this occur was when I was working for a medical company.  The company had two owners.  One who had been a former district attorney and was still an attorney.  It was so clear he was having an affair with his secretary.  I saw it again when I started working for the legal services.  The woman was also an attorney.  She had a very nice husband and children.  Not to mention she was addicted to certain drugs.  She was let go and to the best of my knowledge her life completely fell apart, and the boyfriend left her. Her life was actually complicated but she made it that way.  Life is difficult as it is without adding problems, affairs, drama and lies to cover up things.  Don’t you agree?
