Everyone who is older wants to look younger. The number of products available is astronomical.  It is a wonder that they all stay in business.  There are lotions and potions, supplements, exercises and various products that only a licensed physician can provide. Those include Botox, face lifts, light therapy and more. The number of ads for this is staggering.  If it wasn’t for the older generation, many of these companies would be out of business.  People who abuse themselves their entire lives with drinking, smoking, lack of exercise, eating fast food, high caloric intakes on a daily basis, are the ones who once they discover they are going to die if they don’t change their ways, are their best customers.  Too little too late is usually the case.  However, while they are trying to hold onto life, they will spend any amount of money, do anything and try anything to make themselves well again and look younger.  The hair loss industry loves this as well.  Everyday I see adverts for thinning hair, going bald, losing hair, etc.  The amount of money spent to save a person’s hair is enough to feed a family of three for a week.  Sure we all want to look younger as we age but if you abused yourself your entire life, unless you have large sums of money for plastic surgery and are willing to give up your old ways, it is never going to happen.  Not that this has anything to do with the Good Gus series, it’s just that once again today older women are showing off  on internet their bikinis just to prove they do look younger.  The series can be found online at Kindle with a few books on Nook and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” does have characters, particularly females,  who wish to look younger, but the younger men come along to steal all their money and for a brief period they do believe the are younger and beautiful. Now that we are in the New Year, the adverts for losing weight have returned. Many people are back to dieting again. The Keto is out but the Mediterranean is now on top.  As the new year always starts off,  people are dieting again, trying to exercise more, giving up junk food and in general improve their lives.  Sadly, most people fail.  However, the Mediterranean diet has been ranked by those in the know to be the best one again this year.  What makes it so popular?  To begin with, it restricts calories.  Anyone trying to lose weight knows you have to lower your caloric intake to lower your weight.  The claims you can eat what you want and still lose weight on other diets are bogus.  It also requires planning.  Most people don’t plan their meals and do whatever works at the time.  I like to plan my meals ahead of time to purchase the right groceries and be prepared which is exactly what the Mediterranean diet calls for. Part of this diet which should also be part of anyone’s lifestyle is moderation.  Obviously, including more fruits and vegetables, whole grains and fish are part of the program.  However, if you are dieting again, you really need to utilize your blood type to eat properly.  If a diet says whole grains but you are an A or B blood type, then it’s not for you.  I have written about blood types before and what a person should eat.  Before you make your plans for losing weight, begin with your blood type and then utilize it in the Mediterranean diet.  It should work for you.  In the Good Gus series, dieting was not an option.  All foods were local and home grown.  They ate according to the growing season.  The series is online at Kindle with a few books on Nook and Waterstones. Most people think of fixing in a variety of ways.  Some believe fixing is for their lives, personality, jobs, or their family and friends.  Others think it is for fixing homes to make them more appealing. Now that we are in a new year, people make resolutions that they frequently never keep.  They decide they are going to set goals for fixing themselves.  They plan to exercise more, lose weight, eat less junk food, and try to help their neighbors.  Frequently their resolutions last less than a few weeks.  Their plans for fixing themselves disappear and they revert back to their old ways.  There are many people who try to change their lives with a new career.  Right now, though, the jobs are disappearing, and people can’t make any changes.  They are now hoping if they were made redundant, that they can even start a new position particularly working at home.  There are also the TV shows of fixing up homes.  The people who star in the series work at remodeling various homes that look awful into gorgeous homes.  They modify areas that will hold their value for future resale such as kitchens and bathrooms.  The shows are so popular that the networks are adding new ones all the time.  In the Good Gus series, there was a home that needed fixing.  Liam and Frankie decide to explore a run down house on theit way to Judge Ross’s ranch.  Of course, they get in a bit of trouble.  The book  is entitled, “Run Blackie Run.”  There books available online that have been published and they can be found on Kindle, with a few on Nook and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” is also online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.

  If you are thinking about losing weight, on a Keto diet, or are a Diabetic,  then counting carbohydrates is a way of life. There are apps that can give you a quick response if you are at a restaurant and considering your meal.  In the beginning, if you need to learn about carbohydrates, particularly if you are a Type 1 Diabetic, it seems complicated.  When my son was diagnosed twenty-four years ago when he was a child, my first visit to the grocery took two and one half hours.  Eventually you learn though.  For example, did you know the amount of carbohydrates in peas or corn?   Lovely vegetables that they are, they are high in basic sugar even though none is added.  The only plus about peas is that they are also a probiotic.  If you decide to indulge, remember rice and pasta are sugar to your bloodstream.  You will need to consider an exercise plan otherwise your sugar will hit the roof!  If you pay attention, you can enjoy lovely meals without overindulging in carbohydrates.  The one thing most people don’t understand is that whatever you eat if its on the high side, the carbohydrates will give you more sugar than a candy bar.  Fruits are on the list but also fast food should go off your radar.  There are many apps and plenty of books but common sense works best.  I never wrote a story about a Type 1 Diabetic in any of my stories.  I guess it is something to consider.  The good Gus series is available on Kindle with a few copies on Nook and Waterstones. Here we go again with a new diet fad. This new fad diet is called the potato hack.  It’s interesting because many of the Keto diet fans thinks potatoes are worthless.  However, ask any Irish person and their thoughts are completely different.  After all, potatoes were a staple during the famine.  The goal is obviously to lose weight.  This new fad diet wants you to eat two to five pounds of potatoes a day and nothing else.  It promises that you will lose one pound or .453 Kilograms per day.  I am not sure this new fad diet is going to work.  People will get sick of eating potatoes.  There is so much food readily available that rarely do people eat the same foods every day. While you are on this diet you may add nothing to the potatoes; no butter, sour cream, cheese, bacon bits, etc.  You may drink water, black tea and/or black coffee.  No condiments.  This sounds difficult.  You may exercise but nothing strenuous.  Potatoes are full of nutrition.  They contain Vitamin C, potassium, and Vitamin B6.  You might try it for a few days but then you are missing the fruits, vegetables and leafy green vegetables that we all need.  I called it a new fad diet because you will not be getting the appropriate nutrients  and then like most diets you will give up for any number of reasons including lack of taste, poor results, or boredom.  In the Good Gus series,  many of the books refer to fresh vegetables, growing gardens and eating these foods. There are continual articles on the internet about healthy foods. As you know, the articles change from what is actually a healthy food.  There is a continual push for sprouted bread, wheat breads, and whole grain breads.  Most of them taste nasty, at least to me.  However, what all the writers of the articles are forgetting is that you really need to eat to your blood type. With the DNA companies offering to help you discover your lineage, they are now have a new product.  It is to find out how your genetics will affect you and what you should eat.  As I have said in the past, the A/B blood individuals can eat anything because it is the newest blood.  So, if they decide they love all the whole grain breads they are free to eat the healthy foods without worrying about inflammation and allergies.  There are the people who shame the non healthy eaters because they do eat carbohydrates, white bread and beef.  It’s wrong as they do not know what the make up of the person they are shaming is.  They might be a person who needs a breakfast full of carbohydrates to carry them through the day.  What is insulting is that just because they believe a certain way doesn’t necessarily mean they are right.  The sad part about shaming and bullying is that it has existed for centuries and will continue.  The mentally inferior individuals always feel they have to put another person down or insult them.  I recently saw a video on Facebook in which three high school girls were picking on a girl sitting quietly, reading a book, in the school cafeteria.  They pushed at her and she ignored them.  They eventually pulled the book from her and she fell to the floor.  The main bully proceeded to pour a soda over her head.  The girl quietly stood up and decided to fight back.  She utilized her martial arts training and showed those girls and when a few boys went after her she set them all in their place.  As they were all laying on the floor, she quietly sat back down, pulled her hoodie over her head and went back to reading her book.  In the Good Gus series, healthy foods were a way of life.  Available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.  Visit the UPS Store in Tierrasanta, California for hard copies.  “Misplaced Trust”  is also online 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.

The newest study is out regarding cardiovascular disease and weight lifting. It seems that this study results help to reduce the fat around the heart better than aerobics.  Granted it was a small study and appears to be only applicable to obese people.  Yet, it does show positive results.  The study did indicate that anyone doing cardio did not obtain the same results.  Whether you do weight lifting or aerobics, they can each reduce certain types of fat that are the cause of heart disease.  The scientists don’t understand why weight lifting works better and helps burn more calories throughout the day.  However, anyone who works out understands that using weights and even weight machines stimulate your heart.  If you wear an i-watch you can easily judge your heart rate when you do the treadmill, elliptical, or when you do weight lifting.  There are many studies that have analyzed the various types of exercise and rated which were more effective.  What is really important, as they may not be the type of people who do exercise, but  that any exercise is good.  If you can go to a gym, great.  If there isn’t one near your home or it is not affordable, purchasing free weights at a discount store and walking can put you on the path to a healthier you.  Have you ever noticed that people with dogs walk three times as much as a person without pets?  That is because the dogs love to walk and run and it offers the owner  the opportunity to exercise and keep in shape.  The people who live in countries that rely on walking rather than cars definitely live longer.  In the Good Gus series there were two modes of transportation horses and your feet.  Balboa Park was a great success for Miss Patty today.  She still hasn’t mastered the credit card machine, but she will definitely figure it out by next week!  Besides Saturdays at the park, and the  UPS Store in Tierrasanta, California, you can find the books online at Kindle and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” is readily available at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Playster,  Scribd and Tolino.

When your doctor diagnoses you with high blood pressure, they first thing they say to you is to avoid sodium. There are several high blood pressure foods you should avoid if you wish to lower it.  They will also tell you to cut down on sugar and fats.  How do you do that?  What high blood pressure foods should you avoid? Eating fresh fruits and vegetables is an easy way to start.  Canned soups, beans and vegetables may be convenient but they are high in sodium.  If you are not in the mood to cook, rethink that grilled cheese sandwich.  American cheese alone contains over 1600 mg. of sodium.  The cheddars and gouda should also be off your list and not in your refrigerator.  Pay attention to condiments and sauces.  The cheesy style sauce or gravy not only has too much fat but also too much salt.  Sugary drinks can spike your blood pressure quickly.  So rule out soda and alcoholic drinks that also contain sugar.  Many sodas contain caffeine along with the energy drinks.  It will give your blood pressure a ride straight to the top of the mountain!  Deli meats and the prepared foods in the freezer section of the grocery are definitely high blood pressure foods.  The obvious eating of fried foods, doughnuts, microwave popcorn, fried pretzels, fast food, Chinese take away, and all the sweet pastries need to remain in the shops.  In the Good Gus series, all food was fresh including the ice cream which  although, high in fat and sugar, it was not a daily treat for the population of Pecos.  As a reading treat, the books are available on Kindle, Waterstones and at the UPS Store in Tierrasanta, California.  One of the leading causes of death for a few of the characters in “Misplaced Trust” was eating the high blood pressure foods.  Almost every New Year’s Eve, there are articles about the New Year resolutions.  As 2018 comes to a close, many people have hope for a brighter future along with an increase in money plus whatever their hopes and dreams might be.  Yet, strangely, there is nothing about anyone’s resolution.  All the articles focus on sports, gossip, and various diets.  The writers who focus on trying to gain attention to their articles seem to only include a few topics.  Of course, the politics in the U.S. is an everyday bash of people, policies, ideas, and general insults.  Does it occur to anyone that all the meanness should come to a screeching halt?  The continual attacks on the English royalty, celebrities, along with the shaming of mothers all were toppers of the old year articles.  Of course, at the moment we cannot forget dieting which will fade as the articles for the New Year include exercise equipment and low rates to join gyms.  It’s almost as if the writers think we are all lacking in intelligence.  We can think for ourselves and certainly have our own ideas and opinions.  We don’t need others claiming to be smarter and brighter telling us what we saw on the news, read in a paper, or on the internet.  For the New Year wouldn’t it be nice if the media treated us with the respect we deserve?  If anyone is considering a New Year’s resolution, how about starting small with treating each other with kindness and respect.  This should include children.  That is how they learn and grow up to be the type of individual every parent wishes for.  In the Good Gus series, each New Year brought new adventures and new characters.  Today a man I gave stickers to for his son and daughter was absolutely thrilled that all the stories were set in Texas.  So, tonight as you plan your evening, grab your Kindle and let your children start their New Year with a new series of books.  They will thank you.  For those of you staying home this New Year’s Eve, “Misplaced Trust” is available for your reading pleasure at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Playster,  Scribd and Tolino.
