gaining weight

Everyone who is older wants to look younger. The number of products available is astronomical.  It is a wonder that they all stay in business.  There are lotions and potions, supplements, exercises and various products that only a licensed physician can provide. Those include Botox, face lifts, light therapy and more. The number of ads for this is staggering.  If it wasn’t for the older generation, many of these companies would be out of business.  People who abuse themselves their entire lives with drinking, smoking, lack of exercise, eating fast food, high caloric intakes on a daily basis, are the ones who once they discover they are going to die if they don’t change their ways, are their best customers.  Too little too late is usually the case.  However, while they are trying to hold onto life, they will spend any amount of money, do anything and try anything to make themselves well again and look younger.  The hair loss industry loves this as well.  Everyday I see adverts for thinning hair, going bald, losing hair, etc.  The amount of money spent to save a person’s hair is enough to feed a family of three for a week.  Sure we all want to look younger as we age but if you abused yourself your entire life, unless you have large sums of money for plastic surgery and are willing to give up your old ways, it is never going to happen.  Not that this has anything to do with the Good Gus series, it’s just that once again today older women are showing off  on internet their bikinis just to prove they do look younger.  The series can be found online at Kindle with a few books on Nook and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” does have characters, particularly females,  who wish to look younger, but the younger men come along to steal all their money and for a brief period they do believe the are younger and beautiful. The book is available online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.

In many events in life, there are always side effects.  For example, many people have gained considerable weight during COVID.  Now one of the side effects is obesity.  People were no longer going to work, the grocery, exercising at gyms or even walking anywhere.  They had nothing to do but eat so they did. In addition, if a person was already extremely overweight, their chances of surviving COVID were slim to none.  Many people passed once they caught the disease because their bodies could not handle it.  Obviously, there are side effects from many medications. I once took a medication that gave me  very bad side effects.  When I called the doctor for a different product, the nurse said that I could expect that to happen.  I told her absolutely not as this was not a mild reaction.  I literally had to argue with her for a new prescription. There are also side effects in life.  If you are kind then generally people will be nice to you.  If you are rude and nasty, people will dislike you and not want to associate with you.  I love the arrogant people who believe they are always right and argue  with everyone.  Then they wonder why they have no friends. In the Good Gus series there are a variety of side effects.  You can find the books on Kindle with a few on Nook and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” is also online for your reading pleasure at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Playster,  Scribd and Tolino.

Bone broth is the new popular product. People pay a fortune for a simple product they could make at home.  There is a definite value to bone broth.  I make it frequently.  If it’s chicken, I add purified water, the bones of chicken, carrots, garlic, onions, and any herbs sitting in my fridge.  If you cook it for a few hours, then toss the ingredients, you will  have a great broth to drink, or use for various foods.  I use it for soup and pilaf.  It gives a fabulous flavor.  Beef is exactly the same.  The important facts about bone broth are that it decreases inflammation, promotes the production of collagen, helps heal your digestive tract, improves sleep and more.  Of course, the media claims it is great for losing weight.  All they ever think about is weight loss.  Any type of product seems to always have attached to it the benefits of taking off the fat. I have a lovely idea.  Why not drive by the fast food shops and eat at home?  In Ireland, at the Image Gym, Enda, was furious that fast food had come to Ireland.  He felt it was destroying the health of the country.  You can’t stop progress, but you can pay attention to what you eat and be healthy.  In the Good Gus series during that era bone broth was a staple of life.  The books can be found on Kindle with a few books on Nook and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” can help pass the time while you wait for the weather to improve.  It is online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Playster,  Scribd and Tolino.

Now that we are in the New Year, the adverts for losing weight have returned. Many people are back to dieting again. The Keto is out but the Mediterranean is now on top.  As the new year always starts off,  people are dieting again, trying to exercise more, giving up junk food and in general improve their lives.  Sadly, most people fail.  However, the Mediterranean diet has been ranked by those in the know to be the best one again this year.  What makes it so popular?  To begin with, it restricts calories.  Anyone trying to lose weight knows you have to lower your caloric intake to lower your weight.  The claims you can eat what you want and still lose weight on other diets are bogus.  It also requires planning.  Most people don’t plan their meals and do whatever works at the time.  I like to plan my meals ahead of time to purchase the right groceries and be prepared which is exactly what the Mediterranean diet calls for. Part of this diet which should also be part of anyone’s lifestyle is moderation.  Obviously, including more fruits and vegetables, whole grains and fish are part of the program.  However, if you are dieting again, you really need to utilize your blood type to eat properly.  If a diet says whole grains but you are an A or B blood type, then it’s not for you.  I have written about blood types before and what a person should eat.  Before you make your plans for losing weight, begin with your blood type and then utilize it in the Mediterranean diet.  It should work for you.  In the Good Gus series, dieting was not an option.  All foods were local and home grown.  They ate according to the growing season.  The series is online at Kindle with a few books on Nook and Waterstones. As the days become even colder and the rain and snow falls around the world increase, “Misplaced Trust” may be an interesting read for you.  It is online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.

Lately there are a variety of videos of individuals who torment others for a number of reasons. For example, there is a man on YouTube who promotes kindness all the time.  He appears to be a well known speaker as well.  He did a video that included a speaking engagement.  There were limited seats and a heavy set girl was sitting on the outside of one of the rows. A thin woman sat down next to her.  She literally began to torment her because of her weight.  She was loud, rude and obnoxious.  She stood up and asked if anyone would change seats with her.  A slender young man said he would.  He sat down next to the heavy girl and told her that she shouldn’t be treated that way.  Finally, the speaker came onto stage.  He began talking and one of the first things he said that everyone was to look under their seat for a check for two hundred fifty thousand dollars.  The young man next to the heavy girl was the winner.  The thin girl stood up and said that was her seat originally.  Without being rude,  the speaker basically said it was too bad but she wasn’t sitting there.  Then he brought the heavy set girl onto the stage.  He introduced her and she told her story.  She had always had a weight problem and in school she was continually bullied and tormented.  The point of this exercise was to give a live demonstration that being kind is good and sometimes it has its rewards.  The only person who did torment the citizens of Pecos briefly was Bad Bart.  However, Sheriff Gus solved that in an instant.  The series is online at Kindle with a few books on Nook and Waterstones.  There are man characters who went out of their way  in “Misplaced Trust” to torment the successor trustee of an estate plan along with everyone I worked with seemed to be unstoppable.  “Misplaced Trust” is online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino. As everyone who follows my blog knows, today is my favorite day in Ireland as it is the beginning of the holiday season.  If you would like to buy a book for a needy child, ‘Mae Charles Gift of Reading’ will happily donate a book personally autographed.

Many people cannot release hurt, guilt, the past, or perceived slights.  It is easier to dwell on the past rather than release it.  Many women have a difficult time when their husbands leave them for a younger woman.  They seem unable to release the hurt.  They blame themselves when really it was never them.  Many men go through the change of life but not the same as women.  They know they are looking older, maybe heavier, possible gray hair or balding, and they feel the need to recapture their youth.  They seem to always manage to do it with a younger woman.  I heard a story today about a woman who had been married for thirty seven years when her husband informed her it was over.  He told her he had found someone new who was younger and prettier.  The woman was devastated.  Even after two years she could not release the hurt, the guilt, the wondering what she had done wrong, etc.  Then another friend told her she had to release all those feelings and rebuild her life.  What happened to her hurt of course but by feeding her brain every day with all of the negative, she would never be free of the pain.  She listened and two years later she was really happy and had married a new man who truly loved and appreciated her.  It’s easy to feed our brain with negativity, guilt, blame, feel sorry for ourselves, etc. It’s difficult to let go, but once you do you are free!  In the Good Gus series, everyone tried to do their best.  The series is online at Kindle, Waterstones and Nook.  “Misplaced Trust” is also online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.

Many people cannot confront problems and they end up stress eating.  It’s easy and gives comfort.  However, what stress eating doesn’t give is good health and friends.  Many overweight people are criticized and made fun of which is hurtful.  I have known people make remarks when they see someone who is heavy say unsavory words and have even said them to the individuals.  I was extremely embarrassed.  I saw a video about a girl who grew up unhappy.  Her parents always made fun of her, called her names, and were basically unkind.  She ended up with no friends except food.  She was very heavy.  She did land a job at a flower shop.  One day a customer walked in and she didn’t hear her.  She was dancing.  The customer said hello and immediately she felt uncomfortable.  However, the woman said that she was a beautiful dancer and would she like to take lessons.  She was overwhelmed and so happy.  It was the first time anyone had ever complimented her. She immediately began taking dance classes, went on a diet, began exercising and started jogging.  Before she realized it, she was losing weight and eating healthy.  One day a handsome man walked into the flower shop and ordered a dozen roses. Once he paid, he handed them to her.  They, of course, began dating, married and had a child. All through this she kept dancing as she was finally proud of herself and appreciated.  In the Good Gus series stress eating was not an option.  Occasionally, food was scarce so people ate normally.  Also, there were no unkind remarks about anyone or their appearance.  Important lessons for the young reader.  The series is online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” is online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.  thank you for viewing my crowdfunding site at:  https://www.gofundme.com/f/multicultural-gift-of-reading

The Platters had a wonderful hit song entitled, “Only You.”  Their song was about love.   However, only you is an applicable phrase if you want to make changes in your life.  If you had a rough childhood and used eating as an escape, you may be overweight.  You may have been bullied, insulted, criticized by schoolmates, family and even strangers.  Sadly, people are cruel.  As a child grows, if their size is continuing to expand, other teenagers will be unkind.  As an adult, you may be hired but not as a top executive.  Only you can make the changes to yourself to help reduce your weight.  It’s not just about weight.  If you are upset about your employment, only you can change it.  You can take courses, online classes, and find programs in a field you are interested in.  Most people around the world dislike their jobs.  I have frequently seen people study to become tutors in other countries.  They have the chance to travel, start a new career, meet new people, and become successful.  If you are a negative person because you grew up in that type of environment, only you can turn yourself around.  You can slowly find ways to become positive.  Listening to YouTube videos can help you meditate and begin to release the negative thinking to become positive.  In the Good Gus series, the stories revolve around children and how to handle changes.  The series is online at Nook, Kindle and Waterstones.  Today, April Cox, “The Little Labradoodle author, helped me again with the series.  It is working out much better on Kindle now.  Please check out her website and books.  “Misplaced Trust” is also online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.  Thank you for visiting my crowdfunding site at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/multicultural-gift-of-reading

All children in all families believe that their parents have a favorite child. Today I saw a video about a favorite child.  The dad was extremely proud of his son who had just won another game.  Add to the fact that the reports arrived, and he was an honor roll student.  The dad worked with him every night.  When the daughter asked for help he always said he was too busy.  The dad also practised sports with the son every evening but never the daughter. When her report card was revealed, she was failing.  He had planned to go out for ice cream to celebrate, but he told the daughter no ice cream for her and that she had to go to her room.  Once both children were out of the room, the wife explained to her husband that the son was his favorite child.  The dad, of course, denied it.  She went on to say that whenever the girl asked for help with her homework he was always too busy.  However, he was never too busy for the son, his favorite child.  She explained further that possibly if he had helped her all those times she had asked, her grades might be much better.  All of a sudden he realized that he was not doing right by her.  He proclaimed he was a bad father.  The wife said no, but that he needed to stop favoring the boy so much and start helping and spending time with the daughter. When he went up to his daughter’s room she was sitting on her bed crying.  He apologized and asked her to forgive him. He promised to help her with her homework and sports activities.  Then he suggested that the whole family go out for ice cream. Not all parents realize that sometimes they do have a favorite child.  There are two families in Pecos, in the Good Gus series with more than one child.  J.C. and Bronco, who are twins, and Katie, who is in a wheelchair and her brother Andy.  Katie does receive a great deal of attention, but Andy doesn’t mind.  Actually, all the children are eager to be her friend.  The series is online at Nook, Kindle and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” has characters who believe someone else was the favorite child and wreak havoc while settling an estate.  The book is online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.

With the lockdown around the globe, dieting is back in a big way.  There are countless suggestions to lose weight, what foods to eat and what foods to avoid.  The most important part about dieting is adding exercise.  We all need to exercise even if it is walking around your neighborhood.  If you live where you are not allowed to leave your home, make a route in your home to walk back and forth.  If that isn’t feasible, look on the internet for various types of exercise.  You can always have weights delivered too. The trouble with many western countries is that they have become bored with home cooking and are elated to go back to take away.  I just saw an article that cited thirty restaurant chains that have less than acceptable cleanliness.  At least with home cooking, you know how clean everything is.  There was also an article about the poor quality of many liquid soaps including name brands.  The important part about dieting is variety.  If you mix it up and don’t eat the same foods everyday, you will be able to sustain whatever program you are following and achieve your goals.  Good food doesn’t have to be fast, fried, loaded with salt and sugar.  It needs to be flavored to entice you to remain on your dieting program. It’s also important  In the Good Gus series, dieting was never an issue.  The series is online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” is still online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.
