losing weight

Everyone who is older wants to look younger. The number of products available is astronomical.  It is a wonder that they all stay in business.  There are lotions and potions, supplements, exercises and various products that only a licensed physician can provide. Those include Botox, face lifts, light therapy and more. The number of ads for this is staggering.  If it wasn’t for the older generation, many of these companies would be out of business.  People who abuse themselves their entire lives with drinking, smoking, lack of exercise, eating fast food, high caloric intakes on a daily basis, are the ones who once they discover they are going to die if they don’t change their ways, are their best customers.  Too little too late is usually the case.  However, while they are trying to hold onto life, they will spend any amount of money, do anything and try anything to make themselves well again and look younger.  The hair loss industry loves this as well.  Everyday I see adverts for thinning hair, going bald, losing hair, etc.  The amount of money spent to save a person’s hair is enough to feed a family of three for a week.  Sure we all want to look younger as we age but if you abused yourself your entire life, unless you have large sums of money for plastic surgery and are willing to give up your old ways, it is never going to happen.  Not that this has anything to do with the Good Gus series, it’s just that once again today older women are showing off  on internet their bikinis just to prove they do look younger.  The series can be found online at Kindle with a few books on Nook and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” does have characters, particularly females,  who wish to look younger, but the younger men come along to steal all their money and for a brief period they do believe the are younger and beautiful. The book is available online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.

Bone broth is the new popular product. People pay a fortune for a simple product they could make at home.  There is a definite value to bone broth.  I make it frequently.  If it’s chicken, I add purified water, the bones of chicken, carrots, garlic, onions, and any herbs sitting in my fridge.  If you cook it for a few hours, then toss the ingredients, you will  have a great broth to drink, or use for various foods.  I use it for soup and pilaf.  It gives a fabulous flavor.  Beef is exactly the same.  The important facts about bone broth are that it decreases inflammation, promotes the production of collagen, helps heal your digestive tract, improves sleep and more.  Of course, the media claims it is great for losing weight.  All they ever think about is weight loss.  Any type of product seems to always have attached to it the benefits of taking off the fat. I have a lovely idea.  Why not drive by the fast food shops and eat at home?  In Ireland, at the Image Gym, Enda, was furious that fast food had come to Ireland.  He felt it was destroying the health of the country.  You can’t stop progress, but you can pay attention to what you eat and be healthy.  In the Good Gus series during that era bone broth was a staple of life.  The books can be found on Kindle with a few books on Nook and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” can help pass the time while you wait for the weather to improve.  It is online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Playster,  Scribd and Tolino.

What are superfoods? The scientific community claims you will be healthier and live longer if you eat superfoods. I have been reading for years that pomegranates’ are fabulous for your health.  I dislike the taste but in juice it’s not too bad. Kale is another one.  I frankly hate it and even if it does have antioxidants it is not a food most people enjoy.  Now garlic is powerful not only in taste but in its healing qualities.  Salmon is outstanding primarily because of the Omega 3. The best part about salmon is that it can be cooked a variety of ways and taste absolutely delicious. In many parts of Ireland, smoked salmon is served for breakfast. There are two theories on red wine.  Many say its great, others are not one hundred percent in agreement.  It’s a matter of taste plus how it was processed and what it contains with regard to the grapes and pesticides. There is a great deal of talk abut turmeric but they never give all the facts.  It does keep your heart from enlarging, but it is wonderful for inflammation.  It is also excellent for diabetics and it works to keep their blood sugar lower and at a more consistent level.  Oranges are good for fiber, potassium and I think help you to remain healthy and loose weight. I am thrilled with their theories on dark chocolate as I love it.  They claim is it is a high level antioxidant. I think it tastes good. One last item, blueberries which are my favorite.  They are available now all year round and taste fabulous.  There are more superfoods, but this is just a sampling of choices. In the Good Gus series, fruits were home grown and there were no pesticides.  It made them all superfoods.  The series is online at Kindle with a few books on Nook and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” is also online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Playster,  Scribd and Tolino.

Now that we are in the New Year, the adverts for losing weight have returned. Many people are back to dieting again. The Keto is out but the Mediterranean is now on top.  As the new year always starts off,  people are dieting again, trying to exercise more, giving up junk food and in general improve their lives.  Sadly, most people fail.  However, the Mediterranean diet has been ranked by those in the know to be the best one again this year.  What makes it so popular?  To begin with, it restricts calories.  Anyone trying to lose weight knows you have to lower your caloric intake to lower your weight.  The claims you can eat what you want and still lose weight on other diets are bogus.  It also requires planning.  Most people don’t plan their meals and do whatever works at the time.  I like to plan my meals ahead of time to purchase the right groceries and be prepared which is exactly what the Mediterranean diet calls for. Part of this diet which should also be part of anyone’s lifestyle is moderation.  Obviously, including more fruits and vegetables, whole grains and fish are part of the program.  However, if you are dieting again, you really need to utilize your blood type to eat properly.  If a diet says whole grains but you are an A or B blood type, then it’s not for you.  I have written about blood types before and what a person should eat.  Before you make your plans for losing weight, begin with your blood type and then utilize it in the Mediterranean diet.  It should work for you.  In the Good Gus series, dieting was not an option.  All foods were local and home grown.  They ate according to the growing season.  The series is online at Kindle with a few books on Nook and Waterstones. As the days become even colder and the rain and snow falls around the world increase, “Misplaced Trust” may be an interesting read for you.  It is online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.

Lately there are a variety of videos of individuals who torment others for a number of reasons. For example, there is a man on YouTube who promotes kindness all the time.  He appears to be a well known speaker as well.  He did a video that included a speaking engagement.  There were limited seats and a heavy set girl was sitting on the outside of one of the rows. A thin woman sat down next to her.  She literally began to torment her because of her weight.  She was loud, rude and obnoxious.  She stood up and asked if anyone would change seats with her.  A slender young man said he would.  He sat down next to the heavy girl and told her that she shouldn’t be treated that way.  Finally, the speaker came onto stage.  He began talking and one of the first things he said that everyone was to look under their seat for a check for two hundred fifty thousand dollars.  The young man next to the heavy girl was the winner.  The thin girl stood up and said that was her seat originally.  Without being rude,  the speaker basically said it was too bad but she wasn’t sitting there.  Then he brought the heavy set girl onto the stage.  He introduced her and she told her story.  She had always had a weight problem and in school she was continually bullied and tormented.  The point of this exercise was to give a live demonstration that being kind is good and sometimes it has its rewards.  The only person who did torment the citizens of Pecos briefly was Bad Bart.  However, Sheriff Gus solved that in an instant.  The series is online at Kindle with a few books on Nook and Waterstones.  There are man characters who went out of their way  in “Misplaced Trust” to torment the successor trustee of an estate plan along with everyone I worked with seemed to be unstoppable.  “Misplaced Trust” is online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino. As everyone who follows my blog knows, today is my favorite day in Ireland as it is the beginning of the holiday season.  If you would like to buy a book for a needy child, ‘Mae Charles Gift of Reading’ will happily donate a book personally autographed.

Lately, it seems that people I know are being misdiagnosed. I know a man who went to the doctor’s as he injured his back.  After numerous surgeries and being misdiagnosed on several occasions he finally recovered. He was so badly treated that he ended up with air in his brain.  They also injured his legs.  He finally recovered after a year.  He started a job and after about three months he scraped his leg on company property.  After a few days it really seemed infected and hurt.  He went to urgent care.  They completely misdiagnosed him with gout. Gout is on your feet, not your leg.  They told him to wrap his leg and ice it.  Four days later he saw his regular physician who immediately placed him in the hospital. He was extremely ill with an infection and ended up with sepsis.  He is on the mend but only with antibiotic shots three times a day.  It will be another month before he is well. The only plus side of this, he told me, is he has lost weight.  I know another person who was in an auto accident.  She was in excellent health, always working out, exercising, and eating right.  One year later, after being misdiagnosed, plus injured by a doctor, she is not the person she once was.  She has pain and is slowly beginning to heal.  She has even returned to physical therapy.  One more person.  He was injured and misdiagnosed so that now he walks with a limp and is in continual pain.  What has happened to health care? Problems may continue to escalate with virtual visits.  In the Good Gus series if you had a problem you saw Dr. Moore and Nurse Joyce.  There was no insurance, paperwork, or fooling around.  You were treated with the medical information available at that time.  The series is online at Kindle with a few books on Nook and Waterstones.  As you approach the worries of estate planning, please consider reading “Misplaced Trust” first.  It will give you the facts you need to make the right choice.  It is online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.

If you are thinking about losing weight, on a Keto diet, or are a Diabetic,  then counting carbohydrates is a way of life. There are apps that can give you a quick response if you are at a restaurant and considering your meal.  In the beginning, if you need to learn about carbohydrates, particularly if you are a Type 1 Diabetic, it seems complicated.  When my son was diagnosed twenty-four years ago when he was a child, my first visit to the grocery took two and one half hours.  Eventually you learn though.  For example, did you know the amount of carbohydrates in peas or corn?   Lovely vegetables that they are, they are high in basic sugar even though none is added.  The only plus about peas is that they are also a probiotic.  If you decide to indulge, remember rice and pasta are sugar to your bloodstream.  You will need to consider an exercise plan otherwise your sugar will hit the roof!  If you pay attention, you can enjoy lovely meals without overindulging in carbohydrates.  The one thing most people don’t understand is that whatever you eat if its on the high side, the carbohydrates will give you more sugar than a candy bar.  Fruits are on the list but also fast food should go off your radar.  There are many apps and plenty of books but common sense works best.  I never wrote a story about a Type 1 Diabetic in any of my stories.  I guess it is something to consider.  The good Gus series is available on Kindle with a few copies on Nook and Waterstones. As we round the corner to the end of the year people begin thinking about estate plans and wills.  Read “Misplaced Trust” before making a choice.  It will open your eyes.  It’s online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.

There people who are heavy set not by choice. Many people, including children, have been bullied, picked on and  criticized because they were heavy set. The notion that everyone needs to look like a movie star or celebrity is foolish.  As you all know I love the BBC and watch it frequently.  Today, although I never watch the talent shows, I could not pass ‘Britain’s Got Talent.’ They had a heavy set young man, Jonathan, who is seventeen and a sixteen year old girl, Charla who accompanied him.  I had to stop and hear them sing.  Their music teacher had combined them and they were marvelous.  The boy wasn’t speaking much and Simon Cowell asked him why.  The show cut to a clip where the boy spoke about being sensitive about being large.  He said it wasn’t always to speak to people in public.  The girl immediately said that if anyone criticized him she would immediately defend him.  Simon seemed somewhat laid back until the two began signing.  They sang an opera that serious rivaled Pavarotti or Bocelli. His voice was magnificent.  The audience went wild as did all the judges. Simon did tell Charla she wasn’t that talented but that Jonathan was outstanding.  The old, “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” is even more relevant to this wonderful performance. Truthfully, his voice was so beautiful I started to cry.  Please find them on YouTube as it is worth the search.  In the Good Gus series, we did have a character from Italy who did sing but not opera. The series is online at Kindle, with limited copies on Nook and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” is a good read if you are thinking about a trust or a will.  It is also online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.

Many people cannot confront problems and they end up stress eating.  It’s easy and gives comfort.  However, what stress eating doesn’t give is good health and friends.  Many overweight people are criticized and made fun of which is hurtful.  I have known people make remarks when they see someone who is heavy say unsavory words and have even said them to the individuals.  I was extremely embarrassed.  I saw a video about a girl who grew up unhappy.  Her parents always made fun of her, called her names, and were basically unkind.  She ended up with no friends except food.  She was very heavy.  She did land a job at a flower shop.  One day a customer walked in and she didn’t hear her.  She was dancing.  The customer said hello and immediately she felt uncomfortable.  However, the woman said that she was a beautiful dancer and would she like to take lessons.  She was overwhelmed and so happy.  It was the first time anyone had ever complimented her. She immediately began taking dance classes, went on a diet, began exercising and started jogging.  Before she realized it, she was losing weight and eating healthy.  One day a handsome man walked into the flower shop and ordered a dozen roses. Once he paid, he handed them to her.  They, of course, began dating, married and had a child. All through this she kept dancing as she was finally proud of herself and appreciated.  In the Good Gus series stress eating was not an option.  Occasionally, food was scarce so people ate normally.  Also, there were no unkind remarks about anyone or their appearance.  Important lessons for the young reader.  The series is online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.  “Misplaced Trust” is online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.  thank you for viewing my crowdfunding site at:  https://www.gofundme.com/f/multicultural-gift-of-reading

The Platters had a wonderful hit song entitled, “Only You.”  Their song was about love.   However, only you is an applicable phrase if you want to make changes in your life.  If you had a rough childhood and used eating as an escape, you may be overweight.  You may have been bullied, insulted, criticized by schoolmates, family and even strangers.  Sadly, people are cruel.  As a child grows, if their size is continuing to expand, other teenagers will be unkind.  As an adult, you may be hired but not as a top executive.  Only you can make the changes to yourself to help reduce your weight.  It’s not just about weight.  If you are upset about your employment, only you can change it.  You can take courses, online classes, and find programs in a field you are interested in.  Most people around the world dislike their jobs.  I have frequently seen people study to become tutors in other countries.  They have the chance to travel, start a new career, meet new people, and become successful.  If you are a negative person because you grew up in that type of environment, only you can turn yourself around.  You can slowly find ways to become positive.  Listening to YouTube videos can help you meditate and begin to release the negative thinking to become positive.  In the Good Gus series, the stories revolve around children and how to handle changes.  The series is online at Nook, Kindle and Waterstones.  Today, April Cox, “The Little Labradoodle author, helped me again with the series.  It is working out much better on Kindle now.  Please check out her website and books.  “Misplaced Trust” is also online at 24 Symbols, Apple, Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Page Foundry, Scribd, Playster and Tolino.  Thank you for visiting my crowdfunding site at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/multicultural-gift-of-reading
