Anxiety

Years ago anxiety was something that wasn’t diagnosed.  In addition, doctors felt it was made up and not real.  Today it is all different.  There are even commercials on TV with Kristen Bell giving people hope that there are medications and doctors who understand their condition. Some of the famous celebrities that have been diagnosed with anxiety are Adele, Scarlett Johansen, Emma Stone, Kate Moss and Johnny Depp just to name a few. Obviously, they are not ashamed to have anxiety.  It can start at any age.  If a person is very sensitive, anxiety can appear.  They begin to worry about one thing and then it progresses into several others.  For example, an individual may have applied for a job.  They are anxiously awaiting an answer.  Once they receive the answer with an interview they begin to worry.  It’s not minor.  They are nervous, on edge, can’t stop worrying or thinking about the interview.  This then expands to if they will do well on the interview to if they are hired.  It increases to if they are hired will they do well on the job.  It’s a vicious cycle. We all have worries about life, money, family, health, working, etc.  How we handle it is a different matter.  If a person has applied for a job and then landed an interview, the average person prepares, lays out a nice outfit and doesn’t dwell on it.  They review the company’s profile and try to find out as much as possible before the interview.  Once there, they have confidence and believe they will succeed.  That is why I loved contract engineering.  I never saw the individuals, their interviews were over the phone and it was quick.  They were hired based on their skills.  It’s a good system.  This is also applicable to people working at home.  For my very first office job, I appeared wearing a nice suit and heels.  One of the employees for this particular company had suggested her daughter.  The daughter applied wearing very casual clothes and non dressy shoes.  I was hired to be the secretary to the vice president and she was placed in the mailroom. I do know people who do have anxiety which includes my family, do you? How do you help them? The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
