Suddenly there are new laws being passed for the homeless. They may now be allowed to camp on public parks. Various cities are complaining. It is now up to the supreme court. Not everyone has a choice about being homeless. In an article today a woman lived with her husband’s family and had a steady job. Once he passed, his family told her to leave. She had no real money but she did have a car. Now she uses a walker and sleeps in a tent in a public park. She did try living in a shelter for a while. Many people end up losing their jobs. Then they sell their furniture, homes, cars and before long there is just nothing left. They would love to work again but often cannot find a new job. They end up living on the streets, in shelters or abandoned homes. Of course, now anyone living in an abandoned home is considered a squatter. They can remain in the home for lengthy periods because the laws are on their side. This is also being changed as well. The bad point of this is that often people purchase a home for rental purposes and when a squatter sees it is vacant they move in. I saw an article recently in California where a man had been fighting for nine months to remove a squatter. One of the chapers in “Misplaced Trust” deals with this very matter. A grandmother had passed. Her home was in Los Angeles County and she left her grandson in charge as her children were drug addicts, alcoholics and homeless. The grandson lived in a different county. Once her adult children discoverd that she was gone, they moved right into her home. The grandson had a job and a family. On week-ends he would drive down and fix up the home. Then during the week the junkies would return. They even spray painted everywhere. The police did help but they simply could not stop these people. Finally, he rented a dumster, threw everything out, boarded up the home and sold it. He did give his uncles what was due except for his father who told him to keep his share. The father sobered up and moved in with his son and family. It is not easy being homeless but at the same time hurting others should not occur don’t you agree?
