Chickens are good to eat but that is as far as I will say. Until you have had to go into the coop to collect the eggs you have no idea how difficult it can be. When I was young my grandfather had chickens. Everyday before school I had to go into the coop to collect eggs. I hated it as they always picked at my skinny little legs. Not to mention the fact that the coops smelled. It was particularly difficult during the winter months. He did the cleaning up. They did have the freedom to go outside within a restricted area. It gave them the free movement they probably wanted. In the spring he would decide the fate of the residents of the coop. Anyone whom he decided was fat enough met the chopping block. He always found it funny that they ran around with no heads. Actually, I did too. There are many ways to purchase chickens at the grocery. The free range are fed feed but they also eat bugs. The ones in coops with large corporations also eat feed and do eat bugs. The interesting part of this is that the free range and the coop chickens seem to be about the same size. I would have thought that the free range would be larger. Of course, chicken is part of a low cholesterol diet. There are so many ways to prepare them that if you tried every recipe you might never be bored. Fried chicken seems to be popular particularly in the United States. There are many fast food restaurants that offer it exclusively. I am not a fan of fried anything. I think you can prepare foods, particularly chickens, in a variety of ways to keep the fat content down along with your cholesterol and calories. How do you feel about chickens?
