Older workers are remaining in the workforce. Many do not wish to retire but others cannot afford to stop working. The workforce is reflecting this change in America. The older workers are more stable, on time, finish projects and often more knowledgeable. They also tend to dress in a more professional manner. With the rising inflation many individuals simply do not have a choice. I saw a news article the other day that could have been straight from my book “Misplaced Trust.” A couple in Fresno, California were evicted by their son. They lived in the home for twenty years, paid all the taxes, mortgage payments, repairs, etc. Yet now that it was paid off he decided to simply toss them out. I have seen it happen to other individuals. They never suspected that their adult child would do it and yet they did. They were made homeless and penniless with no reason why except I suspect greed. The older workers tend to have better manners, are much more polite and considerate of others. I saw an ad today for a company looking for independent contractors. They felt forty-two was old. As anyone who follows my blog knows I specialized in the older worker when I was in recruiting. It alwyas worked out. The one important factor about most older workers is that they do have ethics and morals. In many of the videos on Facebook the new managers, owners or bosses are looking for people with empathy, morals and ethics. As they age they want their companies to age gracefully and be successful. Many of them pretend to be homeless out in front of their business. Of course, they always select the person who is kind. It is usually three individuals and two are always rude and nasty. Of course, then there are the cheaters who steal other’s ideas, present them as their own and then when questioned cannot respond properly. These are just a few of the reasons why the older workers are still with us today. How do you feel about older workers? The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
