Years ago people were fired for almost any reason. Today, however, there are so many laws that it makes it almost impossible.  I saw a short clip form “Undercover Boss” that reminded me about the behavior of people in the workplace.  In this particular scene, the CEO appeared as a new hire for an advertising agency.  He had been told by one of the employees that he should be careful of a certain person as they not only will steal his ideas but claim they were his from the very beginning.  Within a couple of days of working the manager called for a meeting to review their customers. Instantly, the liar came up with the slogan the CEO had told him about.  He claimed he thought of it.  That is when the CEO stood up and announced who he actually was and then promptly fired him. Of course the redundant employee immediately said that the company was failing and that he would make it his mission to destroy it.  I have written previusly about workmates, supervisors and managers stealing their co-worker’s ideas. People are fired for a variety of reasons but they are always with cause. I was fired once many years ago.  I was a secretary to a vice president. He was decent to me in the beginning.  Then, when I refused to go on a date with him because his wife was out of town, I was fired within two days.  I was friends with another girl who worked there, although her duties were different than mine.  She told me it took two people to replace me. One of the reasons companies prefer firing is that they do not have to pay the unemployment taxes as the person cannot collect unemployment until they find another job. I truthfully found one very quickly. How do you feel about people being fired? The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
