Underrated

Frequently in life people are underrated, particularly women. There are continual short clips on Facebook about this exact topic. One of my favorite scenes is in “Young Sheldon.” Missy, his twin, is an excellent pitcher and hitter for baseball. When she tried out for the baseball team the coach gave her a chance because she was good and he was dating her grandmother. Initially, the girls in school picked on her calling her ‘mister’ and a boy.  She didn’t care. She loved sports. So, on this day there was a game and she was up to bat. The pitcher for the other team was pitching the ball directly at her head.  After the third time, she dropped the bat and ran out to the pitcher’s mound and knocked him down. Even the coach didn’t object.  It just came down to her being underrated simply because she was a girl. In the movie, “The Help” all the women at that time in the south were underrated.  They had skills but were treated poorly.  What I found awful was that the ladies who were the servants who took care of the young children and the mothers’ couldn’t be bothered.  The children loved their basic nanny.  However, even as women, due to ethnicity, the mothers berated the nannies and often fired them.  The children cried as they were truly loved and were cared for by them, but neglected by their own mothers. The nannies and servants were seriously underrated.  Often in many of the videos you will watch women failing to be promoted even though they are superior to the men in performing their jobs. I have also seen this in short clips about restaurants.  The women frequently invented and developed new dishes that the head chef took credit for.  This happened in a Hallmark movie staring Lacey Chabert entitled “Groundswell.” She quit her job and went to live with her aunt in Hawaii after the head chef took credit for a dish she developed.  Eventually she did receive the credit she deserved but she spent almost five years being an underrated chef in a top restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia.  How do you feel about people being underrated?
