Many of the coaching, self-help, guides, etc. tell individuals that it is important to help yourself. What does that mean? Basically, they are telling you to re-examine yourself and change. Many people have no clue as to how. They end up paying exorbidant amounts and the chances of working may be at fifty percent at best. They have huge crowds and millions of followers. Part of the problem may be that people want a quick fix and not take the time or effort to follow their plans. It is not easy but if a person wants to change they need to take it one step at a time. It is easy to say to soneone just help yourself. Yet often they find it too difficult, complicated and possibly taking too long. If a person wants to help themselves they need to decide what to do first. For example, suppose a person wants to lose weight. How do they go about it? Do they take pills? Should they ask a doctor? What is the best plan? The first way to help yourself is to decide how much weight you wish to lose. Taking pills is only a temporary measure. Controlling your appetite is a start. Choosing the foods you should eat is next. It doesn’t mean just vegetables. Choosing healthy foods which are everywhere on the internet is an easy task. If it is too complicated join one of the companies that will provide meals of the correct caloric intake to help you. Often, though, there are people who do eat in a healthy manner and still gain weight. Obviously, exercise is next on the agenda. If you hate the gym and cannot go, walking is a good choice. Wherever we live we can walk. I saw an article that said if a person even walks ten minutes after dinner, it will help keep their weight down or at least maintain it. So the next time a family member, partner or friend tells you to help yourslef, think twice as to how. Do you agree? The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
