An insult with a smile is extremely rude and offensive. The first person that comes to my mind who did this on every show was Eddie Haskell on “Leave it to Beaver.” He would make remarks to the boys’ mother, June Cleaver, that were clearly an insult. The writing was good as he was obnoxious and June knew it. In the workplace is where the insult with a smile is truly prevelant. A workmate who might be jealous of another’s good standing tends to go out of their way to give an insult all the while smiling. Of course, you see it all the time on Facebook videos. It can be anyone. Often it is a mother-in-law criticizing her daughter-in-law. It is so subtle that their sons’ rarely even notice. Then you have the daughter-in-laws who go out of their way to insult with a smile in the hopes of removing the mother-in-law from their lives. Some mother-in-laws are a royal pain, but for the most part, we are generally happy that our sons have found someone in their lives that brings them joy and a family. Most mother-in-laws go out of their way to be kind and helpful. The continual videos about the awful mother-in-laws should really stop. There are just too many. On the other hand, the daughter-in-laws should be accelerated as they do cause trouble and frequently get away with it. I have known nice women who have suffered at the hands of their sons’ wives. They usually don’t win in the end and the mother-in-laws are often shut out of their lives which was the sons’ wives’ goal. The insult with a smile is also applicable in the general public. I have seen bank tellers that should not have treated their customers in the manner that they did. As I am from Ireland, I have been insulted with a smile at a bank until a manager, also from another country stepped in to handle the situation. It was minor but that was not the point. No matter what, everyone should have good manners and not insult with a smile don’t you agree? The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
