Over the years there have been countless articles about processed foods. All the articles have clearly stated that people should not eat them. What surprized me today was that the ultra processed plant foods are equally as bad for your health. The article stated that just because foods are meat free and plant based does not mean they are healthy for you. The fact is that ultra processed junk food raises your bad cholesterol along with hypertension which can lead to a heart attack or worse. People believe that because it is free of meat that it is safe to eat. It’s just not true. The problem with ultra processed foods is that they undergo an enormous amount of processing not to mention the adding of chemicals for taste, smell and even appearance. This data is from a study recently released by the Lancet Regional Health – Europe. Of course, the article also mentioned the Mediterranean and Dash diets as being benefical for good health. The smartest way to eat first of all is in moderation. Overeating, besides making a person gain weight, also leads to a variety of medical conditions. I have always been a believer in eating as much organic food as possible. Avoiding the deli meats unless specifically specified are free from chemicals are a good start for anyone who cares for them. As more people are no longer eating in restaurants as frequently, it is a good start. I saw an article that included even more restaurants across the United States are closing. There are so many cooking shows worldwide that teaching oneself how to cook is readily available. Fresh foods are readily available and now that they are shipped from various states in the U.S. and in Europe from other countries it makes it easier and far more convenient to buy. So the next time you are thinking about either processed foods or plant based processed, consider your options. How do you feel about processed foods?
