Successful Women

There have been many successful women over the years and even decades, Of course, Amelia Earhart, comes to mind first. However, there was also Mary Kay who started her own cosmetics firm. Several Vice Presidents in the United States and a female prime minister in Italy. Let’s not forget the late Queen of England, Oprah Winfrey, Rosalind Brewer and Thasunda Brown Duckett.  However, my favorite success women are depicted in the movie about NASA entitled  “Hidden Figures.” There were three women who were my favorites, Katherine Johnson played by Taraji P. Henson, Dorothy Vaughn played by Octavia Spencer and Mary Jackson played by Janelle Monae. They showed to the world that just because they were women of color that there was no reason not to look beyond that to their true abilities.  I loved Katherine as she would take complicated numerical equations and make sense of them. In the movie John Glenn truly knew her worth. Dorothy was a strong woman. She stood up for herself and proved she was quite capabile. What I loved about Mary was that one day she was under a rocketship with a  man from Poland who had escaped the Nazi’s. He saw immediately how brilliant she was and he asked her why she didn’t have an engineering degree. She said two things. First she was a woman and second  a lady of color. He said nonesense and she actually graduated with an engineering degree.  Woman have not always been recognized for their abilities and frankly brains. We are strong and derserve to be recognized for our skills, and abilities. Many women work, raise a family, keep a home, cook everyday and yet it just seems normal.  Well guess what? It is a lot of work and we do derserve so much  more credit. Even if we do not achieve fame, fortune or recognized in a public way we are all successful women, don’t you agree?
