I just saw an article about a man who was forced to stay in school to become a doctor. Five years have passed. He is heavily in debt and hates his work. He recommended anyone unhappy in college should quit. It doesn’t mean you are a failure. It simply means it is not right for you. There are literally thousands of people heavily in debt who finished college. Many have never even used their degrees in employment. Sometimes it’s just not worth it. Other times a solid degree, particuarly in business, can help an individual start their own business, move up the corporate ladder, or utilize it in a different capacity. I went for business as did my son. His education was finished in Ireland. I was amazed at the solid education. He had to start a dental office from scratch as a school project. It was a great way for individuals to learn how to start a business, what is required, how much capital is necessary, leasing an office, equipment, hiring employees, etc. I know a woman who is a dental hygenist. She lives in the midwest and cannot find a decent job. She is currently working as a receptionist in a dental office. It is true she is not living up to her potential but sometimes an income is far more important. Many of the Facebook videos frown and basically insult anyone who did not graduate from college. School is important but it is the only way to make an income. Often individuals who attend a trade school end up never using their skills. My late cousin was a fabulous carpenter. He made beautiful furnitre. However, he somehow ended up in a machine shop and over time was promoted to management. They even sent him on a trip to Ireland to a city next to where I had lived. Finishing school is important. We need a solid education and to be able to do the basics. I have seen statistics that American schools are at the bottom of the list in quality education. Some students leave without even learning how to read and write. It is sad not to have quality schools, don’t you agree? The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
