Many people do things out of spite. It is not quite the same as revenge but fairly close. People attack and say cruel words to individuals they dislike, object to their opinions, appearance, etc. If a person wishes to get even being spiteful is one way. It is not quite as bad as revenge but relatively close. For example, in many of the Facebook videos you see kids speaking in a derogatory manner. Their words are mean and cruel. They don’t actually seek revenge but rather just speak in a spiteful manner and vocabulary to hurt the other people. This often occurs in the workplace. An employee may be jealous of another workmate and decide to harm them in minor ways in the hopes they will be let go or at least demoted. They might act in a malicious manner. It is always wrong and never acceptable yet it occurs every day. Long ago I worked as a temporary at a college in Massachusetts. There was one female who felt she was the head of everyone but in reality she was not. She didn’t like me from the start as I finished my work very quickly without errors. She constantly made spiteful remarks to me because she was basically jealous and she was single while I had a husband. One day I wore a bracelet, that I still have today, that a wonderful aunt gave to me. She saw it and when I went to the ladies room, she followed me and accused me of stealing her bracelet. I took it off and showed her the engraving. She never apologized for her behavior. She did her best to try and have me fired but failed. It is not always easy working with people who should have spite as their middle name, don’t you agree? The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
