Against All Odds

How often have you seen people achieve success against all odds?  There are many individuals in life whom have perserved in spite of everything. Look at the number of individuals who rose out of poverty only to succeed beyond their wildest dreams. For example, Frederick Douglas was a child born into slavery. At that time, the children were taken from their mothers which was quite cruel. When he was twelve, his master’s wife started to teach him how to read. However, when the master found it he put an end to it. Frederick quietly and secretly began to teach himself how to read. When he was sold to a different master he began to teach the other slaves how to read and write.  Once he was discovered, he was beaten and sold again. This horribleness repeated itself numerous times. In 1938 he escaped and left on a train which was where he renamed himself to the name referred to. Once he began attending abolitonist meetings his life changed. He became a famous lecturer traveling to Ireland and the UK. Franklin Delano Roosevelt was crippled from polio as a child. However, against all odds he ran and became the president of the United States. He learned how to walk small distances wearing braces and using a cane. He was very careful to never appear in public in his wheelchair. He is said to be one of the greatest presidents of the United States.  One final example, Col. Sanders. He quit school at thirteen and held numerous jobs over his life time. As no job lasted very long, his wife left him. He continued to struggle and finally gave up at age sixty-five. One day he thought to himself, “I am a good cook, maybe I could use my ability to make money.” He borrowed money and began cooking and selling his fried chicken door to door. Thus, Col. Sanders Kentucky Fried Chicken was born. At eighty-eight he became a billionaire. So if your life is getting you down, remember just a few of the people who against all odds succeeded.
