Everyone is a critic. In the movie and food industries the critics often hold the career of individuals within the palm of their hands. Years ago and possibly even today, a movie critic could make or break a Broadway show, movie, and even a play. Their opinions were not always correct. How many TV shows have you seen with a critic that destroys a production, the finances of the investors and either current or potential future stars? Often when a play or show was finished the cast and staff waited with baited breath for the reviews in the newspapers. It had to become a powerful and intoxicating control that a person would have over others. I saw a movie about a chef who was completely destroyed by a critic. Of course, it didn’t help that the chef lost his temper and threw a steak at him. The videos and words of the so called officenado foodie kept the man from obtaining any work. It didn’t help that on the same day his girlfriend dumped him. He wrote a book about healthy eating that was somewhat popular. Then a friend offered him a teaching job teaching busy people how to cook in a healthy manner. One of the attendees was a cardiologist at a nearby hospital. She cared about her patients and worked diligently to convince them to give up junk food and the fast foods. Eventually, the hospital board wanted this doctor to convince the disgraced chef to teach a class at the hospital to help their patients. At first he reluctantly agreed until his old girlfriend returned making him an offer he couldn’t refuse. It was head chef for her new restaurant in another state. He thought it was his only hope until he realized he loved teaching and wanted to give back to the community. I didn’t always agree with critics in the past and still don’t now, do you?
