Foods

Recently I have discovered that one of the major health shops in the United States sells foods from China. It is a well known fact that they do not care about the healthy value only the actual sales. It has just been discovered that they have been using sulphur to smoke their wolfberry crops to preserve them. There are so many people allergic to sulphur, myself included, that makes this dangerous. There are even videos of their workers washing them in chemicals to make them look better even though it is dangerous. It is worse to know that they soak any berries in a variety of chemicals that are dangerous so that they look good to sell.  What shocked me about the large health food company in America was that it was a company I always trusted. It never occured to me to look at the country of orgin on their packaging. When I lived in Ireland, we had foods from various countries in Europe, Africa, India, Mexico and the United States. I was always careful of the fresh fruits that I bought. They all looked very good I must say. We also had fresh fish but that was caught every day locally. We have learned over the years to read the packaging to check the ingredients. In our wildest dreams, we never imagined that fruits could be so contamined without our knowledge. When I was young we had a viriety of flu’s all from Asian countries. It made us leary but now this goes above and beyond. I have always checked produce as my late husband worked as a bag boy when he was a teen. He taught me to be very choosey about produce. As a result, we rarely purchase produce that is bad from the grocery. I think it is important, in light of this new data, to read all packaging, don’t you?
