There are shows on the TV in the United States about hoarders. It is truly shocking to see how people live. It is definitely a psychological issue. It seems to stem from a form of anxiety, and even obessive compulsive disorder. Not to mention depression, and various types of fears. My late mother-in-law was a hoarder. When my late husband and I brought our daughter to California for a visit, he was flabergasted. Her two bedroom aparment was barely liveable. Of course, he was obessive compulsive in a different way. He liked everything completely organized and in it’s place. He told his mother his plans as his father had passed only a few years before and she didn’t object. I think she missed him as they had been married for so many years. I spent the days in the beautiful weather with our daughter enjoying a variety of activities. Here is the clincher. It took a full dumpster the size of an eighteen wheeler trailer to clean her place out. What is worse is that he filled the whole thing and had to ask for a smaller one to finish. It actually made it easier when he moved her to Texas to live with his daughter and her three children. She ended up taking care of her until she passed. She was and still is a marvelous person. When you see the shows you can’t even imagine how people exist under those conditions. I frankly think that it is an insecruity of just letting things go. It could also happen to individuals who have moved a great deal in the course of their lives. They end up letting so many items go that they now want to hold on whatever they have left.
