Golf

Golf is a popular game. My late father-in-law not only loved it but was quite good at it. He liked to play with his son, my late husband. He had rules though. One time his son brought a friend to play a round. The friend, who was a very cheap man, was wearing shorts. My father-in-law refused to play with them. He felt that there was a dress code namely a collar jersey and slacks. He wouldn’t change his mind and went off and joined another person. On my son’s fifth birthday I had his father, my late husband’s Ping clubs cut down and balanced perfectly. We also had him take lessons. He was and is actually quite good. He would play sometimes in Ireland with a few of his friends. I tried golf and was horrible at it. I couldn’t hit the ball just for starters. Many individuals over the years have become famous as serious golfers. One time when our family was in Florida, my late husband and son met Arnold Palmer. He was a great golfer in his time. He was quite nice to my son which made me like him even more. Golf is a game for people who want to relax but don’t always do. How often have you seen people become so frustrated that they threw their clubs into a pond, river or lake? It is obviously very frustrating. Golf was invented in 1744 by the Duke of Edinburgh. I never introduced  golf into the Good Gus series.  Katherine Hepburn was superb at golf. I once saw a short reel of her hitting five balls, one after another, on a course.
