The weather affects our lives every day. Some of us live in climates we enjoy and others would prefer to live somewhere else. I love good weather and sunshine. It is my opinion it should only rain when I am asleep! Many people are affected by the changes in climate and there are the unlucky people who have Seasonal Affected Disorder (SAD). I was surprised to discover that it affects people not only during the dreary cold winter months, but it also impacts individuals when it is the beautiful sunny summer. When the weather is a focal point in a movie it is always drastic and severe. Even though there is real tragedyies with hurricanes, snow storms, lightning storms, heat waves, tornadoes, torrential downpours that can cause instant flooding, and earthquakes, information about the weather should be, in my opinion, studied by everyone. When there is a climate change with possible devastating consequences, people should be prepared rather than panic. When the real J.C., from “Johnny the Cat and Bronco Ride that Bull,” was young, he was fascinated by the weather. He was also frightened by it. I bought him a book about the weather. The book explained the various conditions, what to watch for and how to protect yourself. I stress reading in most of my books. Book seven, “The New Library” had an earthquake with minor effects. When the townspeople asked Sheriff Gus what had happened and how did he know it was an earthquake, his response was simple, “I read about it in a book.” The next time a child asks you about weather, please consider taking them to the library to find a book that will explain the weather in their own terms. You may find that they can teach you something new. You can meet J.C. in “Johnny the Cat and Bronco Ride that Bull.” I hope you are thinking that a Good Gus book would be an ideal holiday gift along with “Misplaced Trust” for an adult.
