Stupid Things Parents Told Us

Have you ever thought about the stupid things parents told us? For example, if you step on a crack you will break your mother’s back. So as children we avoided all cracks until we realized it was ridiculous. There is more. Chocolate milk comes from brown cows. If you cross your eyes they will become permanently stuck. If make a frown or goofy face it will also never go away. Sitting too close to the TV will damage your eyes. Then there is the saying if you read in the dark with a small light or flashlight it will ruin your eyes. If you touch a frog you will get warts. My thought as a child was I don’t want to touch one anyways so it doesn’t really matter. Santa knows if you have been bad or good so you need to behave. We had to take your dog or cat to a farm. That was a beauty as we realized later in life they were either put to sleep or the parents’ killed them. I knew a parent who told his children that they  sent the animals to Mrs. Waters. Do you know what he did? He drowned them and then burried them. He was particuarly fond of doing it to cats as it was easier. I worked with a man once whose dog was really sick. Rather than put him asleep, he put him the back seat of his car which was where the dog always rode. Then he turned on the car and left him in the garage. After he burried him. I did not care for that at all. This is one of my favorites. If you lie your nose will grow like Pinocchio.  There are plenty more stupid things our parents told us but these have to make you laugh don’t you agree?  As the ads steadily increase for Black Friday and soon for Black Monday sales, save yourself time and trouble and buy a Good Gus book.
