Exempt

What on earth makes people believe that they are exempt from the law? I just saw an article about an aspiring country singer, Austin Tanner, who left the state of Alabama against a court order that forbid him to leave the state without permission. He went to Tennessee for the Music Awards and now the judge has issued a warrant for his arrest. My daughter does a fair amount of paralegal work for family law. She sees parents disregarding what a judge orders and have to pay the consequences. By pay I mean that they lose their visiting priviledges or even joint custody. Why people think that they are exempt from the law is beyond me. You can see videos on Facebook and even in the news about individuals simply ignoring the law and believing that they should be exempt. There are a fair amount of people who speed, crash, and even hurt someone and feel that they should be let off with no repercussions. I recentkly wrote about this with the airline passengers. Lately, though, there has been many articles about political corruption. I just saw a short story about a man who accidentally overheard his daughter talking about her stepmother and his boyfriend. The dad did go out of town for work but after his wife passed he felt it was important to have accounts in other countries just as a precaution for him and his daughter. The worst part about the wife and boyfriend was that he was with an environmental agency employee and every time he was out of town, the wife and boyfriend made sure any type of inspections he had always passed. The dad hired a private dectective only to discover that they had done this previously. Their ultimate plan was to take down his company only after they had made millions. So naturally, he developed a plan of his own to end it and they would not longer use his daughter. Often people feel exempt and get away with breakinging the law and stealing. Do you know anyone who feels exempt? Well, it is here in America that the Christmas rush is officially on.
