Guilt

We have all felt guilt at one time or another over something. It doesn’t matter what you just know it exists. When we were kids we learned guilt if we did something wrong and we were punished. It could have been to do chores as a punishment, no TV or radio which was my favorite, no playing outside, going to bed extra early, etc. Of course, what we learned was not to do whatever we did again or at least not get caught. As we became older, we were more careful. One time I came in one minute late after a party, I was punished for six weeks. The other event that possibly occured was the belt or being hit. That slowly disappeared but people still do it today. I had plenty so I never believed in it. As we matured into adults our guilt changed. We may have skipped school, snuck out, tried cigarettes, alcohol, or anything that was not allowed. For me I couldn’t skip school or sneak out. Alcohol was readily available so it didn’t matter to me.Of course it was never anything but whisky. I didn’t drink it when I went out. Cigarettes I found revolting. Plus being Irish we all have weak lungs. Most of us have had pneummonia more than once, myself included. Many people who have a decent heart and soul feel less guilt that sometimes never goes away. It’s the people who barely feel anything, have a cruel heart that have no guilt. How do you feel about that? Christmas is rapidly approaching. I hope you consider books for the children on your list or in the hospital. They will be joy to them and you.
