Charities

What names come to mind when you think of charities? Are they the Goodwill, Salvation Army, Boys Town, St. Jude Hospitals and several more? My mother-in-law believed in the Salvation Army. When she was married with a son, my late husband, there was a terrible tornado in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1953. At the time he was fourteen. Many of their family died both from his mother and father. Homes were destroyed, and there were ruins everywhere. She told me that the Salvation Army came to the city’s immediate assistance. They didn’t charge for coffee, snacks, bandages, or any type of help. Sadly, she said that the Red Cross did. She would continually remind me of the good work of the Salvation Army. Today they have missions with volunteers helping poor starving people around the world. The Goodwill takes donations and often fixes them so they are resalable at a reasonable price. It is my understanding that abondonded or lost boys end up at Boys Town. The St. Jude Hospitals were started by a former movie star Danny Thomas. His daughter still keeps on his glorious work helping sick children and paying bills for parents who cannot afford to save and heal their children. I always thought that if  the Good Gus series was more successful, I would print the series and donate to the children not only at St. Jude’s but any childrens’ hospital to bring them joy. There are number of charities that literally make millions. My late husband’s aunt worked for one until she realized the the managment, and top executives were making more money that ten well paid employees from a variety of industries. I believe in good charities and particuarly the ones at churches and the Angel Trees in malls, do you? Since it is the holiday season, now is the perfect time go donate books to children in hospitals, or the Angel Tree. It is also an ideal gift for any child on your list. Don’t forget the adults including yourself a copy of the five star Amazon “Misplaced Trust.” It is an interesting read. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones. Hard copies, personally autographed, are available through our website www.goodgusbooks.com along with past blogs for your reading enjoyment.
