Self Control

Many people lack self control in a variety of ways. Stop and think about it. If a person drinks too much, or even every night until they are buzzed, they do not have self control. If they did, they wouldn’t do it. Once in awhile is one thing, but not every day.  My aunt had that problem, however her doctor told her to stop. Shockingly she did and never touched a drop for almost twenty years. Then there are the individuals who try out a drug or two and  before they realize it they are hooked. Pretty soon their life falls apart and they lose their job, home, family, friends and reputation. Many people have tried drugs but quickly realized it that it was not right for them. They had the self control. Take cigarette smoking for example. Once a person begins it is a nightmare to stop.  I tried it once and found it disgusting. Although my late father-in-law, mother-in-law and a few other family members passed from smoking with cancer they couldn’t stop. Until my mother-in-law couldn’t physically smoke, she didn’t stop. She simply had no willpower.  One of the worst lack of self control are people losing their tempers. They often do terrible things. Losing it on the freeways frequently leads to road rage with consequences. There have been people who completely lost it and hurt other individuals and worse. One night my son was dring home from work in Arizona. A car decided out of the blue he didn’t like him. He was tired and just doing the speed limit. The other driver had no self control and tried to run my son off the road. My son changed lanes and he went after him again. Sadly it had been a long day at work and his phone had died. He pulled over to the side where there were lights. As he stepped out of the car, the other driver hit him hard enough that he slid over the hood. Why did this person lose their temper? Who knows? I think he had anger issues and a complete lack of self control, what do you think?
