Stay at Home

Early in the previous century mothers stayed at home to tend to the family, cook, clean, etc. By the 1950’s the children were in school, the men had jobs or were at war in North Korea so they ended up with free time. That is when they started in therapy and on various medications. Today the times have changed. Sometimes the dads are the stay at home parent and the mom is at work. Now, too, there are the parents who both work at home and take care of their family which is exctly what I did. Of course, then times changed and the children attended college, married and returned with grandchildren. It is all the same to me. The stay at home parent simply adjusts. The individuals that now stay at home to work are different. The ones that do not have children dress just enough for phone calls or meetings. They may still be in pajama bottoms or nickers. No one sees them so they do not care. I dress everyday as if I was going into the office or a meeting. Back in the 1950’s and 1960’s you were expected to dress nicely. As a matter of fact, when I gave up dietary school and decided to switch to business college I applied for a job as a secretary with another girl. I thought she would be hired because her mother worked at the company. She dressed casually while I dressed in a suit and high heeled shoes. I was chosen to be the secretary of the vice president. In the Good Gus series Nurse Joyce was a graduate nurse from England that Dr. Moore hired based on her skills. They were a good team in the books which can be read in e-book or paperback. There are a few chapters with stay at home people that are highly criticized in “Misplaced Trust.” It is a different read in e-book. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones. Hard copies, personally autographed, are available through our website www.goodgusbooks.com along with past blogs for your reading enjoyment.
