Often there are kind words you didn’ say that you regret later. It took several minutes for me to think of a title for this story that I heard today. A couple owned an antique furniture shop in New Hamshire. An older man would visit them every summer. It was always a wonderful visit but they never told him. The following year his daughter returned without him. They told her how much they enjoyed him and his visits. Then the daughter told them he had passed. They were devastated primarily because they never said how much they appreciated him and his visits. She said he would have loved that because as he aged he didn’t feel wanted. From that day forward the couple made a point of always saying kind words to people. Yesterday I needed to transfer a prescription to a different city. The first pharmacy said I took too long so they would just cancel it and I would have to start over. I called the city I would be at on Monday and the girl said absolutely she would transfer it. I said, “Aren’t you a sweetheart.” You could feel her smile through the phone. Kind words don’t cost anything. They bring sunshine and joy to others whether it is something simple or complicated, don’t you agree? Kind words were part of the threme in all Good Gus books. I felt it was important for children to learn from anywhere and everywhere.
