Parents

In 1992 a set of parents left their two young daughters ages nine and four alone and went on holiday to Mexico for Christmas. It shook the world that they could even think of doing that.  The parents told the girls they had to take care of themselves. The parents didn’t even hire a babysitter. The girls went next door to their neighbor in Chicago in the freezing weather claiming there was a fire. The neighbor called the police and fire department. The girls were placed at first with their maternal grandmother and then in foster care. It took a while to locate the parents. They were charged with felony abandonment and received two years probabtion. Their behavior changed the laws. I think they should have gone straight to jail. Eventually the girls were placed for adoption.  I know a person who left his five year old daughter alone claiming he was at work or the gym. He was at neither. He was buying take away for himself. Half the time she didn’t even have food to eat. CPS never caught him. He should have been put in jail indefinitely. What are your thoughts? In the story from the Good Gus series, “The Special Gift,” a child was adopted by Ray, a single parent, when Sheriff Gus found him alone. He had been abandoned at an adoption facility. It is a good story for Christmas and you should check it out in e-book or paperback. The unfortunate parts of “Misplaced Trust” are the parents who trusted their children and believed they would do the right thing. It is a good read in e-book. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones. Hard copies, personally autographed, are available through our website www.goodgusbooks.com along with past blogs for your reading enjoyment.
