When Alzheimer’s comes to mind, the first thing people think is loss of memory. However, that is not always the case. We all forget things mostly because our lives are so busy. Sometimes we have to stop and think. It may start early with mood swings, bad tempers, anxiety, no desire to be social or they are suddenly distrustful of anything and everyone. In fact I saw a reel the other day about a young man who had received a scholarship to Harvard and was trying to figure out how to pay for housing. He worked in a diner. One cold night an older woman came in from the freezing snow and collapased. The owner said to throw her out but the boy sat her in a booth and brought her some warm soup and brushed the snow off her jacket. She told him she couldn’t find her way home. Then he saw a medical bracelet with a phone number which stated she had Alzheimer’s. He called and by the time she finished her soup, which he paid for with the last of his money, someone was there to take her home. The next day in his run down apartment a man appeared at his door. He explained that he was the son of the woman he helped. It turned out that seventeen people passed her without helping her. Technically she was still a CEO of a large firm. The son gave him the money for his housing, all he needed to pay his mother’s medical bills and enough money to live on campus for four years. Scientists have discovered that the brain starts changing long before the Alzheimer’s symptoms appear. They have learnd that there is microplastic clogging it. More research is needed though. Do you know anyone with Alzheimer’s? In the Good Gus series, I did not include Alzheimer’s. With the weather rapidly changing, an e-book is a great read for a young child. “Misplaced Trust” did have a character with Alzheimer’s whose family cheated them. It’s an easy download as an e-book to read about true crime and greed. Visit the site and download an e-book. The books are available in e-book from the sites www.goodgusbooks.com and www.misplacedtrustbook.com. “Misplaced Trust” has a five-star rating on Amazon. It is about true crime and greed.
