I know this is in the news, but it saddens me that PBS will no longer exist. They have had great shows over the years that our children followed and we as adults. The fact that we have to say goodbye to ‘Sesame Street” and all the wonderful characters over the years is truly heartbreaking. All young children loved the shows and half the time it occupied them so we could get something accomplished. My children and grandchild even have character Christmas ornaments. The writing in the shows offered insight for young children about ethnicities. Many families are prejudiced and I think the shows helped children to see that we are all the same. They also had great shows for adults particularly series. My late husband I would follow a few over the years. I am hoping that people and possibly corporations will donate to keep it alive. My daughter just reminded me that we had a wood carry bag for our fireplaces that we received when we donated to PBS. One last thought, I do believe that the PBS shows for children helped them with their vocabulary and reading. What are your thoughts? In the Good Gus series everyone got along regardless of ethnicity. It is an important lesson for all children.
