Camera

Except for professionals, people do not use real cameras anymore.  I was reminded  while watching a movie. The lead character, Vera, a newspaper puzzler and also a part-time investigator for the sheriff, was using one. In fact it was a Poloroid. When they were invented, not only were they expensive but extremely popular. People loved that because you received an instant picture. Plus if the take wasn’t to your liking you could do it again. The first camera was invented in 1816. Over time, mostly  due to technology new cameras were invented.  The first mass marketed camera was in 1839. It cost four hundred francs which today equals seventy-one dollars and change. Of course, now France uses the Euro which in today’s market equals four hundred sixty-nine dollars and change.  Kodak invented the first roll of film which expanded to thirty-five millimeter and so forth. Back then if you were a child and had a camera you had the small black and white. Once you took all the pictures you took it to the camera shop,  drug store and eventually department stores for development which of course cost money. That was why people loved the Polaroid, an instant picture with no extras. Over time like all photos they faded but many  still  look quite good. Today almost everyone uses their phones. I still have a thirty-five millimeter. What do you use? In the Good Gus series cameras did exist. I just never thought to include them. Christmas is around the corner and “The Special Gift” is only a download away for Christmas Eve.  There were no cameras in “MIsplaced Trust” but there should have been to capture some of the characters’ behavior. While it is so cold, download an e-book and keep warm. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
