American Bandstand was on for thirty-seven years. I loved that show. It was on every afternoon weekdays. I couldn’t watch at home. However, when I visited my aunt I would go next door to play with a girl a little older than me. She had a playroom in her basement and we would watch TV. It was exciting and my aunt never knew. What I liked about the show was that they had live performances everyday. They did lipsinc most of the time but still worth it once in a while. The host, Dick Clark, was personal and real. He always had a live audience. One of the best things about the show was that they had the latest dances. When Chubby Checker came on everyone learned the Twist. It was so popular that even adults learned it and did it. There were other popular dances such as the Mashed Potato. One day, as I lived in a small town, my friends and I did the Mashed Potato across the street to a soda shop. Another trait of Dick Clark and American Bandstand was that he brought on people with true talent. He was not prejudice. He had great groups with synchronized dancing which was marvelous. When I was older I brought my children to the Sahara in Las Vegas. American Bandstand was long gone. They like it including the synchronized dancing. Did you ever see or hear of American Bandstand?
