I saw an article today about a woman refusing to watch another woman’s two children in the afternoons. She was called ungenerous and selfish. Just because she is at stay at home mom doesn’t mean she can do things for others. It was inconsiderate of that woman to even ask. When my children were young and even now, I still work at home. Once the mothers discovered I was at home, most of whom who did not work, would ask me to watch their children. They would say, “Well you are at home anyways.” Seriously, I was the president of a contract company. I obtained contracts from very large corporations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine and New Jersey. My husband watched the children when I went out of town and of course, they had ice cream sundaes’ for dinner! The point being that whether you are a stay at home mum or you are a work at home mother, your time is important and valuable. I ususally had a babysitter or nanny who did office work while they were in school and then watched them after. I had a decent sized office attachd to the house with patio doors in the front and back along with video cameras as an added bonus. The cameras were available in the 1980’s. I had a viewer and my husband had one upstaris above the garage where the office was. We had a few employees and they loved it. They could wear whatever they wanted to work and kept dress outfits in a closet they all shared for business lunches and meetings. So whether you work at home or or a stay at home mum, your time belongs to you don’t you agree? In the Good Gus series women worked and took care of their children. It was not traditional work but it was farming, tailoring, nursing and careers of the era. The women that worked were Mary at her cafe’, Nurse Joyce for Dr. Moore and Miss Patty the school teacher. The series opens a child’s eyes to the late 1800’s. It is available in paperback and e-book form. In “Misplaced Trust” there were several characters who were extremely ungenerous.
