I grew up being poor. There is a difference between being poor and being broke. There is also a mentality difference as well. When a person is poor they often believe that their whole life will never change. A person who believes they are broke have a hope in turning their lives around. Being poor is not easy. A person has little or nothing in the way of personal goods, a vehicle and frequently food. They struggle with a minimum wage job and cannot afford to obtain an education or training to move out of their position. We always had food. Sometimes it was reheated three to four times. Not my personal best option. I started working cleaning a house on Sautdays at eight. By the time I was ten I was babysitting. I learned early on that in spite of paying room and board, I could save and buy nice clothes. After than it was all up hill from there. Most poor people count on charity and the kindness of strangers, churches and sometimes the governments. A person who is broke had money before and does not believe it will last. They hunt opportunities just as others peruse the internet. They try to find jobs that will give them training or even some type of education. Many of the human resource people discriminate against potential employees. Often they choose people by their appearance even if they are hiring a janitor. When I was a recruiter many years ago for a contract engineering firm my late husband and I owned, I never saw anyone. I submitted for positions. I had a good ratio of close to one hundred percent. All I was interested in was their skills and qualifications. I frankly think that was a good system. I do know a young man who was hired for a position strictly because he was handsome. Do you know anyone that is poor and do you help them? In the Good Gus series everyone helped each other. Since it is still cold, an e-book would be perfect for the child inside.
