Pretend

Lately we have been dealing with clients who pretend that they really need assistance. The truth is they are probing our knowledge to find the answers and then do their documents through the internet. The trouble with doing that  is mistakes can be made which in some cases end up causing a great deal of money to resolve. Let me give you an example. A woman called in and wanted a representative to visit her. Once the rep called she realized that this woman wanted information and did not wish to pay. The woman then called the office and asked for me to call knowing full well my position and knowledge. I complied and gave her the basics. She continually repeated that she wanted everything exactly correct and was willing to pay. As I am not and never have been in sales I did not recognize this subtle tact.  She had no intention of paying and called the office and left a message she had changed her mind. Did she go out to work, possibly get training or an education to do her job? What is it that makes people believe individuals in the legal business should work for free? A couple of months ago a man called in stating he wished someone would come to his home and go over his trust.  We referred the same rep for this individual. It was made clear to him that there would be a charge. He had no intention of paying. With the cost of petrol at over six dollars in California or six Euros and fiftyfour cents what would make anyone believe that they should receive this for free? He and his wife own an expensive home that was probably paid for by their hard work. What I truly cannot understand is why we are worthless and have no right to receive money for our abilities and services. Don’t you agree?
