Many individuals refer to others as being insensitive but quite often they are just shallow. What is shallow exactly you may ask? Besides a low body of water, it is a person who has no real depth or true feelings. As teenagers, individuals are often quite shallow. They may break up with a boy or girl because they are not wealthy, smart enough, hang with the in crowd or even not as attractive as the cheerleaders, too short, not an athlete, or any other foolish reasons. Teens should have learned to like each other as individuals and their positive qualities. What is worse is that those same teens break up with someone only to discover as adults they are extremely successful, may have had plastic surgery, or any other reasons that come to mind. Of course, money is always a reason for almost anything. If they now are interested in a successful man or woman, they are still even more shallow than they were as teens. They obviously did not grow up or mature. Shallow people tend to praise anyone they believe is a success to get on their good side. They do this both socially and in the workplace. You have probably seen the shallow people in the workplace giving phony compliments, acting as if they are genuinely interested in whatever the boss has to say or what her or she did over the weekend. It is sickening. For many women, it’s the man hanging on their desks, leaning over their shoulder while they are on the computer or touching their arm or shoulder. You have probably even seen them move away. There are women that do it but the shows are generally about the men. Their shallowness is bordering on insulting. What do you think when the word shallow comes to mind? I hope you will peruse the Good Gus series and visit the website for “Misplaced Trust.” The books offer a great selection for Christmas gifts.
