Talking

Have you noticed that talking is almost a thing of the past? People text for everything. In any of the TV shows or short reels, everyone is looking at their phones. The old shows had dinner conversation. For example, in “Leave it to Beaver,” “The Brady Bunch,” “The Partridge Family,” just to name a few, sat at the dinner table and talked about their day. If they weren’t talking, the parent would ask if they had a bad day and then ask about it. Early on when I had stepchildren, before I had mine, they were teenagers and it was a requirement to have Sunday dinner. As everyone had different schedules it was the only time we all ate together. We talked about the week, homework, sports, etc. With my own children, we did have meals together. Every Wednesday, we had fajita night and their friends would come. It was very festivie and of course, there was a great deal of talking. It’s sad that the phone has overtaken everyone’s lives. The thing is it is not just younger people. I have found even older people prefer texting. I think the lack of communication should be addressed in all families. Even couples who work crazy hours should take the time to schedule one day a week to just relax and talk to each other. That might be why there are so many misunderstandings in life. What do you think? I hope you are seriously considering a Good Gus book for a child in your life or a donation to a sick child in the hospital.
