When a person decides to do a business venture, they first think about what they are interested in and what they could succeed at. It almost never occurs to the individuals that there is fair amount of research which is needed to actually start. When I was in High School, I took a bookkeeping class that combined business. The teacher was an ex-Marine. He taught us the fundamentals that most colleges don’t even teach. He explained that if you wish to go into business you first need to decide if there is a need for whatever venture you want to start. Then check the needs for said business. Calculate costs for everything including the rent, products, cost to stock them, sales clerks, and what type of profit is achievable. He also said that before you decide on a location verify that it has plenty of both foot and car traffic for sales. Deciding on an attractive display in the front is necessary. He also said that most stores put the direction they want people to go to. For example, in America, Ireland and Italy groceries, the produce is generally to the right. Most of the stores in the U.S. have specials at the very front to attract people to stop and look and hopefully buy. There was a store I would shop at in Las Vegas that had the bread, bakery and produce to the left. When deciding to take that big step, stop and truly think, analyze and verify everything before investing your money. Don’ t you agree? There were business ventures in the Good Gus series, Charlie had a print shop, Ray had a blacksmith shop that Fred worked in afternoons, Mary had a restaurant and eventually there is a new character, Sean, who will open a grocery.
