There is a TV show that responded to a couple about charging their nineteen year old daughter rent. She has faied in college and cannot seem to hold a job. They felt that this was the only way to force her to take responsibility for her life. When I first started cleaning houses, I was forced to pay rent. I was eight at the time. I also staarted babysitting, days only, at that age as well. I was forced not only to pay rent but for any incidental items I might need. By the time I was twelve the payment for rent increased not to mention I had to pay for incidentals such as deodorant, shampoo, and most of my clothes. Clothes meant shirts, skirts, dresses, shoes, sox, winter coat, jackets, sweaters, sleepwear, etc. I saved up and made purchases at quality stores which don’t exist any more. I figured if I was paying I would learn about sales and buy a decent quality. By the time I reached high school and had a part time job, the price of rent increased. Back then the minimum wage in the states was one dollar twenty-five cents an hour. At what age did you pay rent? In the Good Gus series there was no discussion of rent only interesting stories in e-book and paperback. In “Misplaced Trust” there were individuals who did pay rent on properties owned by the trust but at low rates. In some cases no rent was paid which led to huge issues with the successor trustee. It is a different read in e-book. The Good Gus Series is available online at Kindle, Nook and Waterstones.
