Until today I never knew what Boxing Day was. I always thought it had to do with fighting. Apparently in Canada and Great Britian not only is it a holiday but a day to box up items and give them to the poor. It is actually a good idea. Rather than return an item you received that you disliked, donate it. It might also be a good idea to go through your closets and drawers and give away all the items you have duplicates of, don’t wear or find no longer useful. I also think it would be a good idea to donate nonperishable foods too. Anything that helps another person out is a plus. Just because Christmas is over doesn’t mean you should forget about giving. Because my bank account was hacked, this is the first year I could not donate. It was very upsetting to me. I actually called the bank today and they still say it will be a few more days. Whomever this person was also hit my email. As it is a holiday in many countries, everyone should appreciate it. In Ireland it is St. Stephen’s Day which was my late grandfather’s name. He was actually born on Christmas. Every year I baked a cake for him. He was adament about giving to the needy. He felt that there were too many people struggling and could use all the help we could offer. Of course, we gave at other times of the year as that it what people from Ireland did. Do you donate on Christmas or Boxing Day? In the Good Gus series everyone helped each other. The series gives important lessons about kindness to the young reader.
