Groceries

Everyone is trying to save money on groceries. In many areas in the United States it is extremely difficult. Some individuals have even tried raising chickens. Not only are they difficult but they will pick at your legs which is what they did to me when I was young. Several of these people have found it to be much more difficult than they thought. During World War II people grew victory gardens. They are figuring out how to grow in small areas and even indoors today. My daughter grows basil and scallions. She has not succeeded with lettuce or avacadoes yet. When I was young I lived in the city with my grandparents. We lived in a single family home that was called a row house in Ireland and a townhouse in America. Today it is a multimillion two condo home. We had wooden plots that my grandfather made in the tiniest area you could imagine. We grew vegetables as he was a farmer originally in Ireland. When I was moved to another member of the family who lived in suburbia, he came and grew green beans, wax beans, potatoes, tomatoes and of course, there were chickens. They often became handy for Sunday dinner! Today many individuals are trying to duplicate the victory gardens to save money on groceries. Some cities are even outlining areas with plots for families to grow food. All this effort helps reduce the cost of groceries. Do you grow foods to reduce your grocery bill? In the Good Gus series everyone had gardens even Sheriff Gus. It was a time of farming but eventually a grocery was opened in a later book.
